Livability - a recent project for JohnsonBanks

I was commissioned by Michael Johnson who was rebranding Livability, a nationwide disability charity. The charity provides education, shelter and social care for people in many locations all over the country with a wide range of ages and disabilities

My brief was strictly to not use any long lenses, but to engage closely with my subjects whilst showing the nature and scope of the work the charity carries out as positively as possible, I loved the job, and it was one of my most challenging. This was due to shortness of time to get to know my subjects, the amount of travel involved and number of diverse venues to visit.

Extract from JohnsonBanks’ Newsletter:

A UK-wide photo-shoot by renowned reportage photographer Nancy Honey is another key element of the new brand. From tea-dances to pottery lessons, table football to tea and biscuits, the young and old are all portrayed as equally - and as positively - as possible.

Livability has already soft-launched their new approach and used it at events across the country. It’s early days, but the signs are that this will be the approach that clearly defines them in the sector, sets them apart, and adds up to something quite special.

In this project I was asked to make a large series of close up parts of the bodies of as diverse a group as possible in terms of age, gender and ethnicity.

The pictures then formed an important role in the branding and were used in many different ways including leaflets, boxes, posters, etc.

Vodafone – to create a library of images for multi-use branding

I have been photographing people for a long time, but never tire of teenagers, who I find refreshing, idiosyncratic, and constantly inspirational. I aspire to picture the poignancy of this time in their lives.

I was asked to apply this vision to make a library of images of everyday life for Vodafone. This is a selected part of that series.
